Right from the early age of 16 years, Hamilton had good companionship in the form of his brother Darren to learn the game of darts and within a couple of years he entered the county level. He went through a long break in his career as he became low in confidence to take his game to the next level as well as having other personal reasons. Hamilton left the game of darts for about two decades.
Re-entering the world of professional darts in the year 2004, Hamilton made his TV debut in UK championship, but did not really impress his fans as he lost to Eddie Lovely 2-5 in the first round. However, he did not give up and qualified once again next year for the World Darts Championship.
